Nicole Ferreira

 

Nicole was born in Pretoria and began her dance training at age five with Diane Cassidy, Joy Cooper and Michelle Naude. She trained in classical ballet, Spanish dance and modern dance. Nicole obtained her RAD Advanced 2 with distinction in 2005 and in 2006, received her Cecchetti Advanced 2 level as well as Grade 4 Spanish Dance Society syllabus.

In 2004 she won the RAD Intermediate Bursary and that same year won the JAM Choreographic Competition for juniors. She received a Special Mention at the RAD Advanced 1 and attended the Bartholin Dance Workshop on Copenhagen in 2005.

In 2006 she was the runner – up at the Cecchetti Advanced II Bursary Awards and won the RAD Advanced II Bursary.

She was nominated Junior Dancer of the Year at Pro Arte in 2002 and 2003 and received the School’s Margot Fonteyn Trophy for Excellence in Dance in 2003 and 2004. That same year she participated in the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland. Nicole received the Jazz Dancer of the Year award in 2005 and the Letitia Muller Trophy for Excellence in Dance the following year.

In 2007, she was accepted into The SABT’s Graduate programme appearing in the Company’s seasons of Romeo & Juliet, Ballet Highlights, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. She also appeared in the broadcast of Swan Lake on SABC 2 in December 2007.

Nicole was accepted into the Corps de Ballet in January 2008 and appeared in the Company’s seasons of The Sleeping Beauty, Autumn Enchantment, Don Quixote (on a sold-out tour to The National Arts Festival, Grahamstown), FNB’s La Traviata-the Ballet as well as the pop ballet Rock-a-Tutu at The SA State Theatre, Pretoria.

In 2009 she appeared in Veronica Paeper’s Cinderella-the Ballet at the Joburg Theatre followed by appearances with The Cape Town City Ballet in the production of the same name.

On April 5th 2009, Nicole was presented with the Madge Cade Award along with Angela Malan, Karen Beukes and Jenny Barlow for her commitment to The SABT.

In June 2009, she appeared in Coppélia at the Promusica Theatre in the role of Prayer followed by an appearance in the music video for local pop icon Kurt Darren’s song titled Sunday. She then performed in FNB’s Giselle at the Joburg Theatre as well as Janice Honeyman’s pantomime Pinocchio.

Nicole appeared in Swan Lake in March / April 2010 at the Joburg Theatre. She made her début as Micaela in Veronica Paeper’s ‘Carmen-the Ballet’ in August 2010 and then joined SABT on tour to George and Knysna.


James Fraser

 

James was born in Johannesburg and began Latin American and Ballroom dance lessons at age 11 with Dave Campbell and Cathy Gibbons. James and his partner won numerous competitions and championships in these styles. He also did dancesport freestyle with Daniel Swanepoole and later at the Diana Moore Danceworld where he excelled in freestyle and hustle under Ashleigh and Amber Moore.

During this time James started ballet lessons in the Cecchetti style with Sue Le Cordair and went on to study Royal Academy of Dance with Dorothy De Wit, Vanessa Eborall and June Melville, achieving distinctions in his Intermediate and Advanced 1 exams.

He attended the National School of the Arts and was accepted into the SABT School under the instruction of Natasha Ireland. He then progressed to the SABT Academy where he was trained by Christian Tátchev, Iain MacDonald, Karen Beukes and later with Jenny Barlow and Madame Slou.

As a member of the SABT Academy, James performed with SABT in its productions of HamletGiselle as well as the Arabian in the The Nutcracker. During this time he won the award for the most promising student at the annual Val Whyte competition. He also received the RAD CentralGauteng Panel Advanced 1 Bursary.

In July 2006, James was selected by Diane van School (Principal of White Lodge at the Royal Ballet School) to attend a two week summer school at the Royal Ballet School, his trip was sponsored by SABT Friends. In January 2007, James attended a summer school at the Australian Ballet School and remained at the School where he was continued his training until 2009.

He returned to South Africa and in 2010 and joined SABT as a member of the corps de ballet where he performed the Spanish, Neapolitan, Grande Valse and Polacca in Swan Lake at theJoburg Theatre.



Jessica Overton

Jessica was born in Johannesburg and started ballet lessons at age three while at nursery school due to a foot problem. She matriculated at Reddham House School receiving a distinction in dance. While there, she also won the Dancer of the Year award for four consecutive years, Cultural Student of the Year and received her full colours ion dance. Her teachers at Reddham House were Manuela Loureiro and Diane Beneke.

Her private teachers include Cynthia Bevan as well as Fiona Brown (Cecchetti method) with whom she completed her Advanced 2 Examination. Jessica has also obtained the Royal Academy of Dance’s Intermediate examination. Jessica is also the recipient of the Cecchetti Advanced 1 and the Advanced 2 awards. She was also coached by José Pretorius and Vyvyane Lorraine.
Jessica was a member of the Johannesburg Youth Ballet for four years where she was coached by Jean Beckley, Nigel Hannah, Dianne Richards as well as guest teachers. She then joined The South African Ballet Theatre’s Academy where she trained with Jenny Barlow and in 2008, she entered the Cape Town International Ballet Competition.

Jessica has performed in several SABT productions including Janice Honeyman’s pantomime Pinocchio, The Nutcracker, Balletomania!, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty.
