Le Canard and The SABT 2010 Partnership

Le Canard is proud to announce our partnership with the The South African Ballet Theatre for 2010.  This will involve awareness and fundraising initiatives, including an exciting series of Ballet Dinners in 2010 to celebrate SABT’s 9th birthday, and LC’s 21st!

Apart from staging desirable and world-class productions, extensive Outreach and Graduate Programmes are part of SABT's philosophy, endorsing the company's faith in the future of ballet in South Africa: professionals taking ballet to communities that have never had exposure to this art form, and involving them not only in terms of audience development but also considering ballet as a career choice for their children.

Le Canard is the only venue in South Africa chosen to present the new and entire range of exclusive “Ondine” wines. And this is where you come in… award-winning wine “Ondine” has fittingly been appointed as the official wine of SABT, and for every bottle purchased and enjoyed at Le Canard, a portion of sales will go directly to SABT! (a Section 21 NPO). Previous fundraising initiatives by LC have included Hospice, Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Breast Health Foundation, Moments In Time Calendar Trust, to name a few.

“Ondine” is created by Ormonde Private Cellars in Darling on the West Coast, by winemakers extraordinaire Theo Basson and Michiel Du Toit, and have scooped many international and local awards for their ranges. We thank them for their generous role in the SABT partnership for 2010, and trust you will savour and enjoy their creations.

“The legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn will always be associated with Ondine, the ballet created expressly for her by Sir Frederick Ashton. Her unearthly beauty and fluid grace perfectly evoked the water sprite who lived in a fountain, in a haunted, watery world of mystery. The ballet is filled with rippling images of waterfalls, sea and streams”.
